Dear Clara is my ode to Clara Driscoll who was head of the Tiffany Studios Women's Glass Cutting Department (the "Tiffany Girls"), in New York City. Clara started with the company in 1888 and worked there on and off for more than 20 years. Women who were engaged or married were not allowed to work at the company, so she had to leave when she married in 1889. After her husband died in 1892 she returned and continued to work at the company until 1909 when she remarried. Driscoll designed more than thirty Tiffany lamps produced by Tiffany Studios, among them the Wisteria, Dragonfly, Peony and many other iconic motifs. Driscoll was one of the highest-paid women of her time, earning $10,000 per year. I have always been inspired by Tiffany glass and am happy to pay tribute to one of the most talented designers who created many amazing pieces. These fabrics are my designs, but I hope they reflect some of the magic of her beautiful glass!
